If you needed proof that Kaleb Cooper is exactly as dedicated to farming as Clarkson’s Farm makes him look, this is it. The fan-favourite farmhand has welcomed his third child with fiancée Taya — a baby boy named Ashton — and the story of how it happened is somehow even more “Kaleb” than fans could have hoped for.
According to Jeremy Clarkson’s own account in his weekly column, Cooper got the call that Taya was in labour while he was out harvesting a field. Rather than dropping everything immediately, Cooper reportedly told her to hang on — he’d be there once he’d finished the field he was working. Clarkson, clearly both amused and impressed, called it about as “farmerish” a response as he’d ever heard. True to his word, Cooper made it to the hospital in time for Ashton’s arrival, born weighing 6.13lb at Chipping Norton Maternity.
There was even a suggestion — only half-joking — that the newborn be named after the field Cooper had been harvesting when the call came through. The idea was quickly dropped once everyone remembered what that particular field was called: Deadman.
Cooper announced the happy news himself on social media, sharing a photo of Ashton wrapped in a blanket, followed swiftly by a picture of himself eating a Chinese takeaway at the hospital — a very Kaleb way to celebrate. He made sure to mention he’d bought the maternity ward’s midwives a takeaway too.
Ashton joins older siblings Oscar and Willa, making this the third child for Cooper and Taya, who’ve been together since they were teenagers and got engaged on Christmas Day back in 2022.
For longtime viewers of Clarkson’s Farm, the timing feels fitting. Cooper has spent years being the show’s most relatable, hardest-working presence — the man who somehow keeps Diddly Squat running no matter what chaos Jeremy causes. Finding out he finished a harvest before rushing to welcome his own son into the world isn’t surprising in the slightest. It’s exactly who he’s always been.
