ED HARRIS ADMITS HE WANTED OUT OF DUTTON RANCH — HERE’S WHY HE’S STAYING FOR SEASON 2

Ed Harris didn’t hold back when discussing his first season on “Dutton Ranch,” the “Yellowstone” spinoff led by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser. The Oscar-nominated actor, who plays veteran-turned-veterinarian Everett McKinney, revealed he felt misled about how substantial his role would actually be — and that midway through filming, he was ready to walk away from the project entirely.

According to Harris, he had been told his character would carry significantly more weight in the story than what ultimately made it to screen. That gap between expectation and reality reportedly wore on him throughout production, even though he says the finished season “turned out pretty good” once he watched it play out.

Despite the rocky start, there’s good news for fans who’ve grown attached to Everett’s slow-burn dynamic with Beulah (Annette Bening) and his steady presence on the ranch alongside Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser): Harris is expected back for Season 2. Sources indicate producers have assured him his character will be given more to do as the Dutton Ranch story continues.

The revelation adds another layer to the growing list of behind-the-scenes friction surrounding the “Yellowstone” universe, following earlier reports of contract negotiations among the franchise’s biggest names. For a world built on loyalty, land, and hard-won trust, it seems some of that tension lives off-camera too.

“Dutton Ranch” Season 2 does not yet have a confirmed premiere date.
