San Bernardino County firefighter passed away with family, service dog by his side
A San Bernardino County firefighter remembered for his dedication to both the department and the community has died, officials announced this week.
Fire Engineer Robert “BJ” Myers died June 4 while off duty, surrounded by family, friends, fellow firefighters and his service dog, Scout, according to the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District.
The department announced Myers’ death in a social media post Thursday, describing him as a firefighter who served with “honor, professionalism, and courage.”
In addition to his work as a fire engineer, Myers served on the department’s Community Outreach and Support Team, or C.O.A.S.T., which works closely with residents throughout San Bernardino County.

The department said Myers was “a true public servant” who demonstrated “compassion and commitment to the community.”
“We extend our deepest condolences and prayers to his children, family, friends, and colleagues of Engineer Myers,” the department said in a statement.
Officials did not release Myers’ age or a cause of death.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. The department said details will be shared once they become available.
