A Heartbreaking End For A Beloved Companion: The Tragic Loss Of China’s Famous Road-Trip Dog

For anyone who has ever loved a pet, they aren’t just animals—they are family. They share our homes, our quietest moments, and sometimes, our greatest adventures. That was the beautiful bond shared between a Chinese traveler named Guo and his beautiful eight-year-old Border Collie, Chutou. Together, this dynamic duo captured the hearts of over a million followers on Douyin, China’s version of TikTok, by documenting their incredible journeys across the country over many years. Tragically, that beautiful journey has come to a devastating, unthinkable end.

The nightmare began last month when Guo took a solo trip to Georgia, leaving his beloved CHUTOU in the trusted care of his father in the central Chinese province of Henan. On May 11, Guo’s father brought the pup along to work in the family’s agricultural fields, which is exactly when the worst happened—Chutou suddenly went missing.

Anxious and heartbroken, Guo immediately cut his international trip short and rushed back to China to spearhead a desperate search for his furry best friend. After reviewing surveillance footage, the grim reality came to light: video evidence showed two total strangers picking up the dog and carrying him away on an electric bicycle.

In a desperate bid to get his companion back, Guo managed to track down one of the individuals involved in the incident. He selflessly offered a massive reward of 10,000 yuan (about $1,500 USD) just to have Chutou brought back safely. The individual claimed he simply mistook the animal for a stray that followed him when called. However, Guo strongly rejected this excuse, noting that Chutou was actively wearing both a collar and a tracking device while resting on the family’s private farmland.

Then came the news that would shatter any pet owner’s world. Guo was informed that his precious dog had been sold to a local meat market establishment for a mere 180 yuan—less than $27 USD—and the animal was gone forever. To make matters worse, reports state that the individual and his family offered absolutely no apology, coldly telling the grieving owner to stop making a fuss because they believed no rules were broken. When Guo went to confront the establishment worker involved, he was met with total coldness, being told that any remains were disposed of long ago.

Today, animal lovers worldwide are mourning alongside Guo. According to regional reports, Guo is working closely with local authorities and has firmly stated he will not accept any private settlements or mediation. He intends to pursue this matter to the absolute fullest extent of the law. While certain major cities like Shenzhen and Zhuhai have strict protections in place for domestic pets, nationwide regulations remain complex. For the million fans who watched Chutou explore the world, this is a profound tragedy, and a stark reminder of the pure devotion between a man and his dog.
