Penning his thoughts in The Sunday Times, the ex-Top Gear host detailed his latest foray into progressive agriculture, boasting about operating one of the most sophisticated and costly tractors ever made.
The lead figure of Clarkson’s Farm expressed his thrill at the arrival of the AgBot T2, an advanced autonomous tractor he hails as “the coolest machine in the world.”
The 65-year-old broadcaster noted that it typically takes him 30 hours in a “bouncy tractor” to till and ready the 200 acres he annually utilises for cultivating pasta and sowing seeds.
Consequently, Jeremy has opted to lease the pricey piece of machinery – yet not all are pleased with this new acquisition.
He remarked: “Kaleb hates it. He says it’ll put him out of a job. I did point out, though, that if his contracting business had one, he could turn up at someone’s farm, set it off, and then go to someone else’s farm with his normal tractor and get paid twice. Double dipping.”
Furthermore, he commented: “Onlookers in my local village have said to me that while the AgBot appears to be impressive, it does take some of the romance out of farming. I’m sure they’re right. It does, in the same way that back in the 1920s the tractor took out some of the horse-based romance.
“The fact is this: we all still want a red phone box in the village, even though an iPhone is more convenient, doesn’t smell of urine, and rarely has a tramp sleeping in it. You’ve got to move on.”
The AgBot T2, a hefty nine-tonne piece of machinery, hails from the Netherlands and boasts German engineering.
It’s powered by a robust 156-horsepower diesel engine that drives an electric generator, and its track system offers superior manoeuvrability while minimising soil damage.
The father of three shared his enthusiasm for the new tractor, which will autonomously precision-drill Diddly Squat Farm, expressing his eagerness to see if the investment proves fruitful.

Clarkson also disclosed an unusual nightly ritual since acquiring the AgBot, which involves a certain intimacy with technology.
He confessed: “Every night for the past week I’ve climbed into bed and made Lisa watch a feed from the AgBot’s cameras as he trundles along in the darkness.
“She thinks I’ve become a bore and wonders sleepily why I can’t watch Pornhub like a normal person. But to be in bed while you’re tractoring does make me all warm and fuzzy.”
