Jeremy Clarkson and David Beckham became neighbours when they moved to the countryside, but David has recently been on the blunt end of a message from the former Top Gear star

Jerem Clarkson said “you better f***ing not” as he sent a blunt message to Sir David Beckham. The former Top Gear star recently reached out to David after he was announced as a guest editor for Country Life.

TV presenter and farmer Jeremy Clarkson joins thousands of farmers protesting in Whitehall against changes made by the UK government to agricultural inheritance tax on 19th November 2024 in London, United Kingdom. Government ministers have intimated that they will not reverse the changes, made in the recent budget, and that the money raised by them will be allocated to schools and health.(photo by Mark Kerrison/In Pictures via Getty Images)

The former England captain, 50, has embraced rural life in Oxfordshire since hanging up his boots. He has developed a passion for beekeeping and likes to grow his own vegetables.

After it was announced that David would guest edit the October edition of the magazine, Jeremy decided to congratulate him. However the Clarkson’s Farm star ended up berating his neighbour.

Speaking to The Times , Jeremy, 65, said: “I said congratulations [on Beckham’s selection to guest edit Country Life magazine] and he replied, ‘Thanks for your message; not official yet, but if it happens I’ll have a nice pint of Stella.”

Jeremy, who has embraced rural life himself at his Diddly Squat Farm, launched his own brewery, Hawkstone, with business partner John Hornby in 2021. Just three years later the star decided to buy a pub a short drive from his farm, which is now known as The Farmer’s Dog.

After hearing David’s proposed celebratory drink, Jeremy shot back: “You had better f***ing not.”

He added: “If he is going to drink anything that’s not Hawkstone, it should be Beck’s.”

John playfully queried if the 115-cap footballer hailed “from a long line of Belgian farmers,” pondering his choice of a Danish lager. Sir David Beckham, who was knighted earlier this month, is set to share his favourite recipes, craftspeople, and rural champions in an upcoming issue of Country Life.

He will offer insights into his countryside lifestyle. In conversation with the magazine, he expressed: “I am honoured to have been invited to guest edit an edition of a magazine that I have always admired and read.

“I am really looking forward to working with the editorial team to produce an issue that will celebrate what the countryside and the great British landscape means to me and my family.”

David and Jeremy Clarkson are reportedly close neighbours in Oxfordshire, with the ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid star often seen at the Diddly Squat Farm Shop.

In 2021 Jeremy’s partner Lisa Hogan revealed David would leave the girls in the shop “blushing” whenever he would visit with daughter Harper. She added: “He comes in every Sunday with his daughter to get the milk.”

David has also been spotted alongside Gerald Cooper from Clarkson’s Farm. The endearing farmer, with over five decades on the farm, has been instrumental in the success of Diddly Squat alongside Kaleb Cooper.

A 2023 photo featuring Gerald and David went viral, garnering over half a million likes after Jeremy posted it with the caption: “Gerald. And another man.”
