Lisa Hogan, a former actress and model who swapped the glitz and glamour of showbiz for life on the farm, opened up to Prue Leith about her experiences on Clarkson’s Farm. During an appearance on ITV’s Cotswold Kitchen show, Prue, 85, gently probed Lisa about her drastic lifestyle change.
“[You’ve] now swapped a life on the catwalk, in the social whirl, for a life farming in the Cotswolds, in the mud, all hours of the day and night with boyfriend Jeremy Clarkson. I think you must be mad!” she candidly remarked. In response, Lisa insisted that she loves “mud and guts” and identifies as a “true land girl”, despite having faced moments that brought her to tears, reports The Express.
One such moment was when a sow became so ill that she could no longer care for her piglets. The pig was so weak that she couldn’t walk or eat, and had to be put down to prevent further suffering.
This incident moved Lisa to tears, a rare occurrence according to her. She confessed to Prue: “I’m not a crier. Jeremy… I don’t think he’d seen me cry [before that day.] ‘My shoulders started going and I was like: ‘Oh no, not now. I’m going to cry.'”.
Another distressing event occurred when Lisa had to step in as a makeshift midwife to assist a sow giving birth, during which there were casualties. Lisa was deeply moved by her hands-on experience, finding herself filled with compassion whilst assisting the mother pig and her piglets, leading to quite the emotional scene.
Prue lavished praise, saying: “One of the best moments I have seen on television is Lisa Hogan playing midwife.” She commented on the poignant nature of the scene: “It was so emotional because half of [the piglets] were dead, you were crying but you were not stopping doing the job!”.
Among the tales of hardship, there are those of success as well, notable with one piglet reaching adulthood and producing a healthy litter of 14, all of whom survived. Meanwhile, Lisa’s role at the farm only continues to expand, from writing her own book and launching an apple juice brand, to becoming a fan-favourite on Clarkson’s Farm.
