“You can’t polish a turd”: One of the Hottest Game of Thrones Actresses after Emilia Clarke Finds Aging Extremely Liberating

Game of Thrones alum Lena Headey feels more at ease now that she’s older as the pressure to look pretty has finally gone away.

There are so many beautiful actresses in Game of Thrones, but one that stands out the most is definitely Lena Headey. Her performance as the cunning and ruthless Cersei Lannister was lauded by fans and critics, but more than her talent and acting skill, it was confidence in herself that enabled the English star to pull off such a complex role.

There’s a certain pressure in show business to maintain one’s beauty and remain youthful-looking as much as possible. For someone like Headey, who has been in the industry for so long, it’s extremely frustrating to fit into the beauty standard and even attempt to defy aging to secure a gig.

Lena Headey is No Longer Pressured by Beauty Standards Now That She’s Older

Lena Headey spoke with fellow actress Carla Gugino via Interview Magazine and discussed the highs and the lows of their careers. The Game of Thrones star agreed with her fellow about the strange feeling of seeing oneself age in films. It is brutal, but at the same time, liberating.

Like you said about the liberation that comes with age, you give less of a s—t because there’s not as much pressure put on you anymore.

Most young Hollywood stars would devote so much time to getting that perfect body shape or doing extreme face makeovers to fit the Western ideal beauty. Once they hit a certain age where wrinkles start to show up or the supermodel body is no more, some would go under the knife while others would choose to embrace aging.

Headey clearly chooses the latter as she detested the notion of having to look perfect when she was younger. Even the brutal hours spent on a makeup chair made her feel anxious. Now, the 51-year-old star feels comfortable wearing her skin no matter how it looks. She said it is “the freedom of, ‘I look a little bit f—ked and that’s actually great.’ You can’t polish a turd, as we say.”

In fact, she feels much happier now that she’s older because there’s less expectation to look pretty all the time. In her interview with Porter Magazine, she said that there is “a real pressure on women to be beautiful and skinny,” especially when going for auditions. Now, she’s fine playing female characters who aren’t expected to be drop-dead gorgeous.

Like Headey, Emilia Clarke has had her fair share of people criticizing her appearance. She played Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO series for eight seasons and we all saw her growth on the show. In her conversation with Elle Magazine, she said she’s more confident and wiser now at her age.

“You’ve got this idea of aging, and then you’ve got the idea of what aging makes you look like,” she said. The actress expressed pride in all the work she has done over the past years and time was the only thing that allowed her to fulfil all those accomplishments. “If my face is gonna reflect the time that I’ve spent on this earth, I’m down for that,” the actress remarked.
