Emmerdale’s Carl King Jr star has two famous parents – and a Hollywood role

Emmerdale’s Carl King Jr has been at the centre of a dramatic storyline in recent weeks, but the character has been played by several actors over the years, including Dexter Ansell

Emmerdale’s Carl King Jr. character has a famous father that many fans may not know about.

Jimmy’s son, Carl, who takes his mother Juliette Holliday’s surname, is more commonly known as Carl King Jr., named after his uncle Carl.

Recently, Carl has been thrust into the spotlight in an Emmerdale plot-line where his cousin Tom King destroys a tablet containing evidence of him abusing his wife Belle with Carl catching him red-handed.

Since his first appearance on the soap in 2014, Carl has been portrayed by several actors. In 2016, Dexter Ansell took on the role before it was eventually passed to the current actor, Charlie Joyce.

Dexter then moved on to play Dawn’s son Lucas Taylor from 2019 to 2021, reports Leeds Live.

However, Dexter’s father is none other than G4 star Jonathan Ansell, making him quite famous outside of the soap world. Jonathan formed the pop-opera group G4 with his bandmates Mike Christie, Duncan Sandilands and Jai McDowall.

The band secured second place on The X Factor in 2004 and went on to sell over 1.5 million albums in the UK, along with five sold-out tours. However, they decided to split in 2007.

By 2014, they had reunited for a series of tours and are still together today. Meanwhile, Jonathan has also enjoyed a successful solo career, releasing four albums of his own.

Jonathan and his wife Debbie King, the former host of ITV game show Quizmania, have two children together.

However, Dexter’s parents aren’t the only big names in his family. Since his departure from Emmerdale in 2016, the young actor has ascended to the glitzy heights of Hollywood, securing a part in the Hunger Games prequel The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, alongside luminaries like Peter Dinklage and Viola Davis.

In the film, Dexter portrayed the youthful incarnation of Coriolanus Snow the antagonist of the book series in a demanding sequence that saw him traversing a desolate wasteland in a frantic quest for sustenance while those around him succumbed to cannibalism.

Since his time in the Dales, Dexter has also featured in Sky series such as The Midwich Cuckoos, Hullraisers and The Moor.
