“Someone’s gonna find me out”: Emilia Clarke Quietly Battled 1 Issue Plaguing Many Hollywood Stars in Game of Thrones’ Early Days Despite Being Show’s Crowned Jewel
Emilia Clarke had to overcome extreme self-doubt after being cast in Game of Thrones as she had very little acting experience.
Actress Emilia Clarke is best known for her time as Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO fantasy drama series Game of Thrones. The series not only made Clarke a household name but also established her as one of the most promising talents in Hollywood, laying the foundation for a solid career that has only seen new heights since the series concluded.
Despite the positive reactions to her Game of Thrones character, Clarke admitted that she faced one issue that most Hollywood stars face during the early stages of their career. In an interview, Clarke broke down her time on the HBO series and revealed what it meant to her. However, she also revealed doubting herself during the early stages of her career, and here is what she had to say.
Games of Thrones Star Emilia Clarke Admitted Suffering From Self-Doubt
Emilia Clarke started her acting career in 2009 with an appearance in an episode of the British soap opera series Doctors. She had only appeared in a couple of short films and a television film when Clarke was cast to play the role of Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones.
The series made Clarke a household name and set the foundation of her Hollywood career. During an interview with The Guardian, Clarke reflected on her early career, especially her time on Game of Thrones as a relatively less experienced actor.
My only concern was, I’m gonna get fired, someone’s gonna find me out. Someone’s gonna tell me I’m sh*t at my job and I need to go home.
Clarke made the above statement, confirming that like most actors, she suffered from imposter syndrome as she was unsure of her own skills and talent when she was starting out in the industry.
Furthermore, the actress explained that for years she felt that her poor acting skills would lead to her character being killed off or her getting replaced by a different actress. However, Clarke also admitted that as the seasons passed, she became more self-assured, which only improved her performance.
Emilia Clarke Reveals Why She is Grateful For Game of Thrones Experience
While Clarke was a newcomer when she joined the ensemble cast of Game of Thrones, she quickly became a standout performer. Clarke earned four Primetime Emmy Awards nominations for her role in the series, three in the Supporting Actress and one in the Lead Actress category.
Ultimately, the actress undoubtedly became the crowning jewel of the show. Therefore, it is easy to understand why Clarke values her experience in the series despite the several ups and downs, including the lackluster ending to the story. She said:
I look back on Game of Thrones like anyone else would look back on high school. It was my entire education.
Clarke made the above statement, explaining that the series helped her learn everything about the industry, making her value her time on the HBO series.
Furthermore, Clarke added that the series helped her meet some of her closest friends and she was extremely fond of the cast and crew. She also named former co-stars and real-life couple Rose Leslie and Kit Harington as some of her dearest friends.
