Neil Druckmann shares the process behind the live-action version of Pedro Pascal’s The Last of Us
Ever since the first season of The Last of Us came to an end back in 2023, fans have been waiting for any update about the second season. While the world might have to wait a bit for future episodes, the creator of the HBO show, Neil Druckmann ended up giving fans a look at the creation process of the Pedro Pascal series. In an interview with Variety, the 45-year-old opened up about how he and Craig Mazin managed to bring the video game to life.
The way we approach it, we start at the beginning of the season, and we break the season, and we look at the game.
Druckmann continued, “Our goal is to tell the best story possible, and then our process is to just look at the content we have in the game and say, ‘OK, what are things that we both just overwhelmingly love and feel could be adapted as is?’ And we just put little check marks by those index cards to say, ‘OK, those things could just stay as is,’ and that becomes building blocks.”
Druckmann may have given his fans a peek behind the curtain of his creative process. However, he did not stop there. With the second season set to release later in 2025, the creator ended up hinting at what fans could have in store for the upcoming season.
What does Pedro Pascal’s The Last of Us season 2 have in store?
After months of waiting, Pedro Pascal fans have had their prayers answered. Just hours ago, Max ended up releasing the teaser trailer for the second season of The Last of Us. While not a lot ended up being revealed about the storyline, new cast members like Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, Danny Ramirez, and Jeffrey Wright were added. Although fans might have to wait to see how the story plays out, the creator, Neil Druckmann teased in the same interview with Variety that fans will get to see more backstory about an important character.
There’s stuff in this season that I’m really excited about — stuff that we hinted at.
Druckmann continued, “One scene in particular comes to mind that I think fans of the game will eat up, because it really kind of tells you a lot of backstory of this important character that there wasn’t really a way for us to even do that in the game.” With the 45-year-old teasing something that has never been seen before, there is no saying how fans will react to it.
With the release of the teaser trailer and the multiple updates, the upcoming season of Pascal’s show is sure to have the whole world hooked once more. However, fans would have been happier with an in-depth film, but the creator rejected that idea.
