EastEnders star lands first new role in eight years with new movie
Former EastEnders star Sid Owen has been cast in a film, his first new role in eight years.
The Ricky Butcher actor’s last acting credit was in 2016, when he featured in a short film called Angels and Cowboys. Away from his appearance in reality series Banged Up, Sid’s other TV appearances have occurred when he’s returned to EastEnders.
The Ricky Butcher star will feature in an emotive new film
Alongside Jess Impiazzi and Daisy May Cooper’s acting father, Sid will soon feature in a movie called A Day With An Eating Disorder.
Created by writer Lynn Crilly, the story is set to provide a voice to those experiencing life with an eating disorder.
Explaining why he is taking part in the film, Sid said: ‘Mental health and eating disorders affect lots and lots of people. I know someone who has gone through an eating disorder and it’s really tough.
‘So it’s great to be able to take part in a project which looks to break down stigma and help people.’
Ricky was mentioned in 2023 during Cindy Beale’s (Michelle Collins) return to Walford.
She revealed that she had been in contact with Ricky, who lives in Germany and said her daughter Cindy Jr is doing fine.
Ricky returned to Albert Square in 2022 during the final part of Janine’s (Charlie Brooks) storyline.
After Janine, Mick (Danny Dyer) and Linda’s (Kellie Bright) showdown at Christmas, Ricky’s exit saw him depart for Germany, this time with niece Scarlett (Tabitha Byron) in tow.
