EastEnders’ Penny star Kitty Castledine has a very famous mum – and a famous brother
EastEnders star Kitty Castledine has already made quite the impact as troublesome Penny Branning in the BBC One soap this year – but do you know about her famous family?
Penny is Jack Branning’s (Scott Maslen) eldest daughter, from his first marriage to Selina Branning (Daisy Beaumont).
EastEnders’ Penny comes from a famous family
The character, who was left paralysed from the waist down after being run over by one of Jack’s criminal associates, first appeared in the series with her mother in 2008, and was seen in a handful of episodes.
She was reintroduced in January – with Kitty taking over the role – on a regular basis.
Since then we’ve seen her flirt with newcomer Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway), frame her cousin Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) for carrying drugs across the French border and be involved in a horrific mass-crush incident at Peggy’s, the nightclub she manages.
But did you know that the rising star comes from a showbiz background? It’s all with thanks to her famous mum Lucy Alexander.
You may recognise the property expert, 53, from the popular home renovation TV show Homes Under The Hammer.
Following the news of Kitty’s casting, Lucy reshared a picture of them both on Instagram with a wholesome caption.
She penned: ‘So as a family we have had to keep this a secret for a while … 🤫🫣(cue the music 😂) But now the press release is out…
‘Congratulations @kittycastledine @bbceastenders on your role as Penny Branning in the show. Proud of you my girl.’
The mum-of-two is also married to ex-Premier League footballer Stewart Castledine and they share two children – actress Kitty, and Leo, a footballer.
The 19 year old recently signed a new contract with Chelsea until 2027.
Earlier in the year, Kitty shared a sweet snap of the clan together, writing: ‘Faaaamily.’
Recent scenes have shown her continuing to enjoy spending time with Harry, despite Jack’s reservations about their relationship.
When he realised Harry was day drinking, he charged over and told him to keep away from his daughter. Teddy (Roland Manookian) didn’t take too kindly to the threat – despite the truth behind his words – and dealt a menacing warning to Jack.
