Chris Hemsworth won’t be portraying Hulk Hogan after all following report that Todd Phillips’ sports biopic won’t be moving forward. The project was first announced in 2019, but even after the pandemic and the strikes, it did not achieve any progress. Multiple delays have made the team decide it’s time to shelve the project.
Sports movie fans better not worry because there’s a new talk in town of a potential WWE legend getting his own movie. Note that this is just a campaign from fans who want Pedro Pascal to portray Eddie Guerrero.
Eddie Guerrero Movie Should Happen After Hulk Hogan Biopic’s Cancelation
The internet is currently obsessed with the possibility of Pedro Pascal bringing a wrestling legend’s story to the big screen. After Chris Hemsworth’s Hulk Hogan movie got the axe, this is the closest and most feasible option.
Eddie Guerrero was in his prime years when he met his untimely death at age 38 due to acute heart failure from using steroids. The news shook the world of wrestling in 2005 because not only was he a promising professional athlete but was loved by his peers as well. He had this charming, happy-go-lucky persona on the ring, but on the serious side, his work ethic was unmatched.
His story is more compelling and noteworthy to turn into a biopic than Hulk Hogan’s. Guerrero won 23 titles during his career and was posthumously inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006. More importantly, he was universally loved by fans. Biopics should inspire viewers, and Hogan’s life story plagued with scandals and controversies does not really paint a pretty picture.
Some of Hogan’s issues include making racist and homophobic remarks on a leaked s*x tape, choking comedian Richard Belzer live on television, and cheating allegations that led to divorce from his first wife. Perhaps it is better to let the project stay dead.
While Todd Phillips’ biopic is no longer in the works, Hollywood besties Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are said to be developing a similar project with director Gus Van Sant at the helm. As per The Hollywood Reporter, the Batman star is being eyed for the role of Hogan. The film will reportedly revolve around the wrestler’s legal battle with Gawker Media.
It remains to be seen if this project actually pushes through, but hopefully, an Eddie Guerrero biopic will still happen in the future.
